Bush Book Decision points set record on day 1
Former President Bush’s memoir, “Decision Points,” kick start on Tuesday, selling at least 220,000 copies both hard cover and ebook.
The results represent the largest first-day sale of any nonfiction title published by Random House Inc. in the past six years, said Crown Publishers, a unit of Bertelsmann AG’s Random House.
David Drake, a spokesman for Crown Publishers said “We’re very pleased with first day sales.
Crown earlier announced a first printing of 1.5 million copies, a large run at a time when the poor economy and digital titles have tamped down physical book sales in general.
“Decision Points” received a warm welcome through pre order prior to it’s release. Pre-orders for the book, which are included in first-day sales, were really good. The publisher said they represented less than 40% of the 220,000 hardcover’s and digital editions that were sold, however.
“It’s done incredibly well for us, and it will be our fastest-selling adult hardcover for the year,” said Liz Harwell, a director of merchandising for Barnes & Noble Inc., the nation’s largest bookstore chain.
That Former President Bush agreed to several well-publicized television interviews gave his book decision points additional velocity because he has largely kept a low profile in the last two years, she noted.
“Suddenly he’s out there, capturing the audience,” said Ms. Harwell. “He has something compelling to say, and people are intrigued. They want to know what was behind his decision making, be they liberal or conservative.”
She added that sales have been good across the country, but particularly so in Republican regions. “It’s also popular in Washington, D.C., where people want to see if their name is mentioned,” she said.
The book set to be best seller for this year and it is expected the sale will rise during coming weeks and through Christmas vacation were more reader want to spend their travelling time on reading books.’
